 The four: Dennis Kwok, Kwok Ka-ki, Kenneth Leung and Alvin Yeung. All had been barred from running for re-election in the now-postponed Legislative Council elections previously due to be held in September. The expulsions immediately followed the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress passing a resolution requiring that lawmakers who promoted or supported Hong Kong independence or refused to admit China’s exercise of sovereignty over the city should be considered in breach of their oath of allegiance to the SAR and removed. Ted Hui was arrested this morning in connection with a Legislative Council meeting held in May. HKFP NYT

The seven were arrested on charges of contempt and interference with Legislative Council officers. SCMP

As well as being charged with secession under the national security law, Chung also faces two charges of money laundering and one of conspiring to publish seditious materials. Chung was denied bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for 7 January 2021. HKFP

The police announced they would be opening a national security hot-line, probably in November, for members of the public to give information about possible national security threats. SCMP

Police arrested Tony Chung, former convenor of pro-independence group Studentlocalism,near the US Consulate. Local media reported he was intending to ask for asylum in the consulate. HKFP

Lai arrested for "foreign collusion".  Six others, including two of his sons, also arrested.  Guardian

Technically, the university's Governing Council sacked him. Its Senate had determined there were insufficient grounds for Tai's removal. Guardian

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the agreement was being suspended indefinitely due to Beijing's imposition of its National Security Law. Raab also said also plans would be in place for a path to UK citizenship for around 3 million Hong Kong people by early 2021. BBC

President of UK’s Supreme Court suggested that British judges might not be able to continue to serve if the National Security Law casts judicial independence and Hong Kong’s rule of law into doubt. SCMP

Au resigned following statements from Beijing's Liaison Office in Hong Kong that those who organised the oppositions primaries held on could have breach the National Security Law. SCMP

Police raided the institute's office in Wong Chuk Hang in the evening with a warrant to investigate allegations of dishonest use of a computer. HKFP

Protest on 12 June 2019 saw first major clash between police and pro-democracy demonstrators. Guardian

A group of pro-democracy activists announced plans to hold primaries for five directly elected geographical constituencies, the five district council “super seats” and the health services functional constituency. The primaries are scheduled to take place on 11-12 July. HKFP

Trump says the US will start to remove Hong Kong's trade privileges with the US, but gives no details on specific measures or a timetable. SCMP
