Government expels four opposition members from the Legislative Council
The four: Dennis Kwok, Kwok Ka-ki, Kenneth Leung and Alvin Yeung.
All had been barred from running for re-election in the now-postponed Legislative Council elections previously due to be held in September.
The expulsions immediately followed the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress passing a resolution requiring that lawmakers who promoted or supported Hong Kong independence or refused to admit China’s exercise of sovereignty over the city should be considered in breach of their oath of allegiance to the SAR and removed.
